Peachtree City is a beautiful planned community located in Fayette County, just south of Atlanta. The city’s development began in 1959, and since its inception numerous recreational areas and golf cart paths have been built. Huddleston Elementary is located in the heart of Peachtree City’s Glenloch Village, the second of five planned communities. We are located across the street from the Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department’s McIntosh Trail Complex which includes Shakerag Knoll Skateboard Park, the William Davis BMX Track, and the serene Shakerag Knoll Park. Other HES neighbors include the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater (The Fred), one of the leading outdoor entertainment venues in the metro Atlanta area and the popular Peachtree City Dog Park.

Huddleston opened its doors in 1979 as the second elementary school built in Peachtree City. Initially, the school housed grades four through six. Since 1991, the school has served students from kindergarten through fifth grade. A newly constructed primary addition opened in 1995 which included kindergarten and first grade classrooms, a gymnasium, and computer lab. In the summer of 2004 the media center was completely remodeled and updated. Twenty-first century classroom technology was installed, implemented, and embraced in the fall of 2010. Classrooms are equipped with mobile interactive whiteboards (Mobis), ceiling-mounted projectors, large screens, microphones with built-in ceiling speakers, electronic student responders, grade cams and Examview technology. Teachers integrate technology to assess student understanding and make instant accommodations to meet individual learning needs. Our faculty is committed to lifelong learning as we adapt our teaching methods to meet the evolving needs of today’s digital-native learners.

Huddleston takes pride in our highly qualified and experienced staff. A high percentage of the faculty and administration hold a master’s or specialist degree in addition to teachers that have earned National Board Certification. Huddleston has an outstanding team of paraprofessionals assigned full time to kindergarten classes, media center, the front office, and school instructional support.

Huddleston is truly a neighborhood school. Many students live in close proximity to the school allowing them to walk, ride a bike, or come by golf cart. Parents are a key component to Huddleston’s success and are regularly seen on the Huddleston campus. On an average school day, over fifty parents sign in to volunteer in the classrooms and media center, eat lunch with their children, and participate in special activities. Parent volunteers, high school students, and community members can frequently be seen around school providing tutorial and mentoring assistance for our students to maximize learning success. Our active PTO funds the salary of a certified teacher to operate the school’s Learning Center which provides additional academic support for students during the school day. The PTO supports academic programs by providing funds for instructional supplies, equipment for the classrooms, and sponsoring visiting artists for cultural arts programs. Huddleston parents encourage community participation in all programs and events by providing newsletter updates and announcements through a mass email communication service.

Special events throughout the year build family, community, and school spirit. Huddleston honors our military with an annual school-wide Veterans Day Celebration. The Huddleston community looks forward to the Winter Festival annually in February. Each spring the staff sponsors the Huddleston Hustle, a 5K race in memory of a former Huddleston student. The Hustle raises funds for programs for the students and staff at HES, builds school and community fellowship, and promotes physical fitness. Students can train for this 5K race by participating in our Huddleston PAWS Running Club each morning on our paved track. Other special clubs, activities, and leadership opportunities offered to our students are the Reading Invitational Book Club, Student Council, Broadcast Team, Safety Patrols, Flag Bearers, Science Olympiad Team, and Chorus Programs. Our fifth grade students participate in the DARE program each fall sponsored by our Peachtree City Police Department and local Kiwanis Club.

The Huddleston community provides a safe and nurturing environment where the staff prepares each student to achieve their personal best. Student learning is the chief priority of the school as teachers challenge students to reach their own potential. Standards-based instruction is delivered in all subjects through a variety of research based best practices. We look forward to future success by continuing to provide a safe, nurturing, academic environment where all staff members work together to ensure our students will be capable of living and working effectively, responsibly, and productively in a global environment.
