BOARD RECAP

 

The Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, October 20, 2003 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education.  The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

2.                  Invocation - Reverend Howard Dial, Pastor of Berachah Bible Church

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance - Brandon Roseborough, 1st grade and Tristan Trussell, 2nd grade, Hood Avenue Primary School

4.                  Comptroller Jim Stephens reported that the monthly finances are in order

5.                  Recognition: outstanding students and employees

6.                  Certificates of Recognition from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency were presented to the board

7.                  Personnel items were approved as presented

8.                  Comments from the public: Mr. Clarence Leathers commended the efforts of

Dr. John DeCotis, Mr. Fred Phillips, and school staff for the quick and timely manner of implementing the Transportation Task Force.

9.                  Items requiring action by the board:

a.                   Energy Management Program Proposal was presented with changes based on questions raised by board.  The Proposal was tabled until next month

b.                  Approved Business representatives to serve on school council:

1)      Ms. Carol Stallings, Stallings Frame & Plaque Shop, Flat Rock Middle School

2)      Ms. Roberta Osteen, Buck's Pizza, Rising Starr Middle School

3)      Mr. Bill Webb, Heritage Bank, Whitewater High School

10.              Superintendent's Reports

a.                   Lights On Afterschool Celebration Day held on October 9, 2003.  Mrs. Julia Simpson, director of afterschool program gave an overview of activities for the day.

b.                  Update on Construction Program:

Whitewater High School:

The ceiling suspension grid is being installed in the classroom areas.  The classroom walls are being painted.  The exterior brick is being installed at the auditorium.  The heat pumps are being installed in the mechanical corridors for the classrooms.  The PE area second floor concrete slab has been poured.  The east student parking lot has been paved.  The parking lot light standards have been installed.  The fencing around the ball fields has been installed.

East Fayette Elementary School Kitchen: 

The natural gas and electrical hook-ups are being made to the kitchen equipment.  All above ceiling HVAC and electrical work is being completed for a ceiling cover up.  The scheduled completion is approximately the week of November 3, 2003.

 

 


Fayetteville Intermediate School:

The Fire Marshall, Building Inspector, etc. are scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2003 or Friday, October 17, 2003 for final inspection for Monday, October 20, 2003 occupancy.

McIntosh High School:

The PE facility building pad has been graded to the lower level floor slab.  The fire protection water line has been run from the area outside the Media to west of the concession building.  The new storm sewer line has been installed from the detention pond to the building pad area.

Sandy Creek High School:

The new staff parking lot has been graded with some new concrete curb & gutter poured. Curb & gutter has been installed for the new student parking entrance.  The storm sewer line has been installed from the detention pond to just past the southeast corner of the existing building.  The existing drama and chorus area has been demolished.  Ductwork is being installed in the new drama location.  Plumbing is being installed for the new toilet areas.
