BOARD RECAP

 

The Fayette County Board Education met in regular session on Monday, November 17, 2003 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education.  The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

2.                  Invocation - Reverend Bob Hudak, Pastor, Episcopal Church of the Nativity

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance - Ryan Harman, 5th Grade at Huddleston Elementary

4.                  Comptroller Jim Stephens reported that the monthly finances were in order

5.                  Recognitions:    Outstanding students and Recognition of the school system were made

6.                  Appearances:

Mr. Butch Bennett, Mr. Gary Teal, Mr. Mickey Littlefield and Coach Rodney Walker, Sandy Creek High School Football Booster Club, stated the multi-purpose building had been built and paid in full with the assistance of parent involvement

7.                  Personnel items were approved as presented

8.                  There were no comments from the public

9.                  Approved consent agenda

10.              Items requiring action by the Board

a.                   Approved Energy Management Program Proposal

b.                  Approved business representative, Ms. Susan Sloan, Sloan Superior Tutors, Inc., to serve on Fayette County Evening High School's School Council

c.                   Approved and read proclamation for Retired Educators Day - November 17, 2003

d.                  Approved resolution certifying all labor, materials and services for construction of Sara Harp Minter Elementary School have been paid

e.                   Approved contract for casework for Whitewater High School

f.                    Placed on table for review - job description for Coordinator of Safety/Discipline/Athletics (formerly Coordinator of Safety)

11.              Superintendent's Reports

a.                   Administrative screening process/position qualifications committee's final report

b.                  Set possible date for board institute

c.                   Update on construction program

Whitewater High School:

The ceiling suspension grid is continuing to be installed in the classroom areas.  The classroom walls are being painted.  Light fixtures are being installed in the classroom area.   The storefront is being installed at the ends of the classroom corridors.  The auditorium exterior brick wall is approximately 80% constructed.  Concrete masonry unit's walls are being constructed around the perimeter of the P.E. area.  The heat pumps are being installed in the mechanical corridors for the classrooms.  Approximately 80% of the standing seam metal roof has been installed on the home concession building. The synthetic track surfacing is being applied on the track around the perimeter of the football field.

McIntosh High School:

Concrete footings have been poured parallel with the existing gym.  The concrete wall above the same footings has been formed.

Sandy Creek High School:

Concrete masonry walls have been constructed in the existing building for the drama and chorus areas.  The contractor has begun digging and pouring some of the perimeter footings for the auditorium.
