BOARD RECAP

 

The Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, December 15, 2003 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education.  The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

2.                  Invocation - Reverend Billy Rowe, Minister, First Christian Church of Tyrone

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance - Ashley Brown, 3rd Grade Student at North Fayette Elementary School

4.                  Comptroller James Stephens reported that the monthly finances were in order

5.                  Recognitions: Outstanding student and employees were recognized

6.                  Appearance:

Mr. Thomas Stephens presented a $2000 donation from the Fayette County Kiwanis Club for the purchase of a defibrillator for the alternative school

7.                  Personnel items were approved as presented

8.                  There were no comments from the public

9.                  Approved consent agenda

10.              Items requiring action by the Board

a.                   Georgia School Boards Association Standards for Local Board of Education - tabled until January board meeting

b.                  Approved business representative, Ms. Nancy Price, Coordinator, Fayetteville Main Street Program, to serve on Fayette County High School's School Council

c.                   Approved resolution requesting technical assistance from Georgia Department of Education (Facilities Services) in developing and updating local Facilities Plan

d.                  Approved January 31st, 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM for Board Institute.  The meeting will be held at the Board of Education.

e.                   Approved mid-term budget

11.              Superintendent's Reports

a.                   Proposed Charter School - Dr. Pam Riddle and Mr. Ed Steil made presentation

b.                  Policies - were placed on the table until next month

c.                   Update on construction program

Whitewater High School

The suspended ceiling grid has been installed in all classroom areas.  One finish coat of paint has been applied to the walls in all classroom areas.  Heat pump and ductwork installation is continuing in the mechanical corridors serving the classrooms.  The roof has been installed in all the major spaces (the majority of the building has been dried-in).  The boilers have been installed and the loop line installation for the heat pumps is on going.  The clerestory windows have been installed in the cafeteria and approximately 70% installed in the gym.  The handrails have been installed around the second level of the gym.  Interior masonry walls have been constructed in the lower level of the P.E area and 40% on the second level.  The sod has been place on one of the two practice fields.

The synthetic track surfacing has been completed.

McIntosh High School

Approximately 45% of the lower level perimeter concrete wall has been poured.

Sandy Creek High School

The concrete masonry walls have been constructed for the drama, chorus and 65% of the restroom area in the existing building.   Approximately 70% of the auditorium concrete footings have been poured.  The staff parking lot is a couple of weeks behind schedule.
