BOARD RECAP

 

The Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, January 26, 2004 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education.  The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

2.                  Invocation

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance - Lindsay Ward - 4th grade student at Cleveland Elementary School

4.                  Comptroller James Stephens reported that the monthly finances were in order

5.                  Appearance:

The Friday Home and Johnson Home Power Parade fundraiser has been changed from Spring to Fall.

6.                  Recognized Sandy Creek High School as a Georgia School of Excellence

7.                  Recognized Rising Starr Middle School as a Georgia Lighthouse School to Watch

8.                  Read a Proclamation for National School Counseling Week

9.                  Personnel items were approved as presented

10.              Comments from the public: two citizens addressed the board

11.              Approved consent agenda

12.              Items requiring action by the Board:

a.         Approved Georgia School Boards Association Standards for local Board of Education

a.                   Update on construction program

Whitewater High School

Permanent electrical service has been provided.  The transformer has been set and permanent power is available in the building.  Some of the classroom light fixtures have been connected to the power.  Concrete masonry is being constructed on the main floor level of the PE area.  Framing for the auditorium gypsum board ceiling has begun.

McIntosh High School

The exterior poured-in-place concrete wall has been poured for the new PE facility.  Almost all of the concrete footings for the new PE facility have been poured.  Below slab plumbing line installation is continuing.  The contractor has begun construction of the concrete masonry walls.

Sandy Creek High School

The vinyl floor tile is being installed in the corridor and storage rooms.  Carpet is being installed in the chorus and ensemble rooms.  The plumbing fixtures in the boys and girls restroom areas have been set.  The ceramic floor tile has been installed in the restrooms.  The structural steel is being set in the auditorium area.  The faculty parking lot is to be proof-rolled for compaction today.
