Board Recap

 

The Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, May 17, 2004 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education.  The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

2.                  Invocation - Reverend Smith Atwater, Pastor, Unity Christian Church

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance - Jakai McDaniel, Pre-K student, Tyrone Elementary

4.                  Comptroller James Stephens reported that the monthly finances were in order

5.                  Recognition: outstanding students, employees, retirees and the school system were recognized.

6.                  Appearance:

Mr. Scott Warren, Director of Contracted Services - High Schools That Work/Making Middle Grades Work

7.                  Personnel items were approved as presented

8.                  There were no comments from the public

9.                  Approved consent agenda

10.              Items requiring action by the Board:

a.                   Approved Five Year Facilities Plan

b.                  Approved bid for garbage collection

c.                   Approved request for Great Georgia Air Show to use Starr's Mill High school parking area for spectator parking on October 9 and 10, 2004 and use of school buses for air show

d.                  Approved to place order for new school buses

1.      Approved Tax Initiative projects

11.              Superintendent's Report

a.                   Local application for State and Federal Funding for vocational education FY05 will sit on table 30 days

b.                  Comprehensive Plan for Special Education and Related Services FY05 will sit on table 30 days

c.                   School calendar for 2005-2006 presented to the board for discussion by Lyn Wenzel

d.                  Legislative changes regarding Compulsory Attendance Law and Discipline/Driver's license presented by Wayne Robinson

e.                   FY 2005 Budget update: tentative approved is set for June 1st and June 21st for final approval. There will be no millage increase

f.                    Update on construction

Whitewater High School                    

Brick is being installed on the bus entrance canopy and the south wall of the P.E area. The concrete walkways have been poured near the band room, each side of the P.E. area and under the south canopy next to the auditorium.  The science casework is approximately 85% complete.  The general casework is approximately 95% complete. The floor tile has been installed in approximately 90% of the classroom area. The basketball backstops are being installed in the gymnasium.  The kitchen equipment is being delivered and set in place.  The walk-in cooler and freezer have been installed.

McIntosh High School

The P.E. facility structural steel and joists have been erected.  The tectum roof deck has been installed.  The lower level locker room concrete masonry walls are being constructed.  The lower level plumbing piping is being installed.

Sandy Creek High School

The roof deck has been installed on the high and lower roof.  The concrete floor slab has been poured in the entire auditorium area.  Approximately 75% of the exterior and interior concrete masonry walls have been constructed.
