Board Recap

 

The Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, July 19, 2004 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education.  The following actions were taken.

 

1.            Approved agenda

2.            Invocation – Reverend Bob Hudak, Rector, Episcopal Church of the Nativity

3.            Pledge of Allegiance

4.            Monthly finances were reported to be in order

5.            Presentation by Senator Mitch Seabaugh was postponed

6.            Appearance:

Ms. Nancy Paulson, Youth Protection Home – the Board approved a resolution for the Fayette Youth Power Parade Annual Walk-A-Thon

7.            Personnel items were approved as presented

8.            There were no comments from the public

9.            Approved consent agenda

10.        Items requiring action by the Board:

a.                   Approved contract for membership in Regional Educational Service Agency for the 2004-2005 fiscal year

b.                  Approved job description for Coordinator of Audits and Reporting

c.                   Approved Citigroup Global Markets for bond underwriter

d.                  Approved Student Code of Conduct for 2004 – 2005 school year

e.                   Approved resolution approving State Application

11.        Superintendent’s Reports

a.                   Policies – will sit on the table for 30 days

1)      Local School Councils (new policy)

2)      Eligibility to attend Fayette County Schools (JBC)

b.                  Update on Construction Program

Whitewater High School

The floor tile is being installed in the Special Education classrooms east of the gym. The gymnasium wood flooring installation is being completed. The gymnasium bleacher installation has begun.  Exterior concrete walks have been poured.  The staff parking lot in front of the school has been paved.  The kitchen equipment is being connected to gas, water and electrical services.  The locker installation has begun.  Approximately 80% of the electrical services for the ceiling mounted digital projectors have been installed.  We have a temporary occupancy permit for just the administrative area and the principal and some of his office staff has moved in.  Furnishings for the school are being moved in and set up in the classrooms.

McIntosh High School

The cafeteria expansion into the chorus room is receiving block filler on the masonry walls.  Block filler is being applied in the chorus and band modifications.  Suspended ceiling grid is being installed in the band and chorus spaces.  Masonry work in the classroom and teacher’s workroom on the second level is approximately 90% complete.  Masonry walls are being constructed in the locker rooms on the upper level of the new P.E. facility.  Base sheet on the roofing has been applied in the new P.E. facility.

Sandy Creek High School

Approximately 80% of the exterior brick walls have been constructed.

The auditorium ceiling has been framed and the contractor has begun installing the gypsum board on the ceiling.  Electrical conduit and ductwork is being installed above the ceiling.  Interior brick work is progressing.  The metal panel installation on the high section is complete with the exception of the cap-flashing.

c.                   Other matters to come before the Board:

Approved November 2 for the bond to be placed on ballot

14.        Action taken: renewal of superintendent’s contract was approved
