BOARD RECAP

 

The Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, August 16, 2004 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education.  The following actions were taken:

 

1.         Approved agenda as amended

2.         Invocation – Father Jimmy Adams, Catholic Church of St. Gabriel

3.         Pledge of Allegiance – Amy Coleman, 5th grade student, East Fayette Elementary School

4.         Recognition – recognized outstanding employees including presentation by Senator Mitch Seabaugh to Ms. Lettie Ashworth for her 46 years of service to the Fayette County School System.

5.         Presentation of School Board Member Training Certificates

6.         Personnel items were approved as presented (Item #2 was deleted)

7.         There were two comments from the public

8.         Approved consent agenda as amended

9.         Items requiring action by the Board:

            a.         Approved Coweta-Fayette EMC as the natural gas supplier

            b.         Approved naming Sandy Creek High School Auditorium – Patriot Hall

            a.         Update on Construction Program

                        Whitewater High School

The staff and students moved into the classrooms, labs and the performing arts areas except the auditorium, gym and P.E areas.  The contractor is working on the auditorium and related spaces.  The architect and engineers have been working on the punch list of the substantially completed areas.

McIntosh High School

The contractor substantially completed the modified spaces in the existing school (cafeteria, chorus, band, 2nd floor classroom & teacher’s workroom). 

The exterior insulation & finish system on the new P.E. facility is approximately 80% completed.  The brick walls have been constructed on the West side of the P.E. facility.  Concrete masonry walls have been constructed on the second level of the locker room areas.  Metal stud framing has been constructed on the gym soffit and 60% of the gypsum board has been fastened to the framing. 

Concrete footings have been poured for the expanded areas for the new kitchen and the contractor has begun constructing the masonry foundation walls.

Sandy Creek High School

Approximately 95% of the exterior & lobby interior brick walls have been constructed.  The auditorium ceiling gypsum board has been installed and is being taped and finished.  The auditorium wall metal stud framing is being installed and gypsum board is being fastened to the framing. 

Ductwork is being installed above the lobby ceiling.  Ceiling framing is being installed in the lobby.
