Board Recap

 

The Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, October 18, 2004 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education. The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

2.                  Invocation – Dr. Howard Dial, Pastor, Berachah Baptist Church

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance – Meghan Pattison – 5th grade student, Mitch Pattison – 2nd grade student, Mick Pattison – kindergarten student, Peeples Elementary School

4.                  Comptroller Lee Davis reported that the monthly finances were in order

5.                  Recognition:

a.       outstanding employee and students

b.      Air show recognition

6.                  Approved Proclamation for School Psychology Week, November 8-12, 2004

7.                  Personnel items were approved as presented

8.                  There were no comments from the public

9.                  Approved consent agenda

10.              Items requiring action by the Board:

a.       Approved Mrs.Terri Smith, Chairperson of the Board,  to serve as Legislative Liaison for 2005

11.              Superintendent’s Reports

a.       LaFayette Educational Center/Charter School update – Dr. Pam Riddle recommended continuing with our own Charter School model instead of adopting Coweta County Board of Education’s program

b.      Revised Policies will sit on the table for review

c.       Update given on Association of Fayette County Governments meeting – Dr. John DeCotis and Mrs. Janet Smola attended the meeting and reported that county government officials voiced their support of the bond initiative.

d.      Update on Construction

Whitewater High School

                        The school staff and students have occupied the auditorium.

The general contractor is working on the punch list items throughout the school.

McIntosh High School

Kitchen: The concrete floor slab has been poured. The concrete masonry wall construction has begun.

P.E.Facility: The metal and modified bitumen roofs are approximately 95% complete. The steel railing around the interior perimeter of the track is approximately 85% complete. The lower level locker rooms, coach’s offices, weight and wrestling rooms have received the block filler.

Sandy Creek High School

The auditorium seating is complete. The lobby floor finish is in the process to be completed. Pending final approval from the fire marshal Friday, the auditorium is scheduled to be occupied by the school staff and students on Tuesday, October 19, 2004. There are a number of items that will require completion after the school has occupied the auditorium. This work will be completed around the schools schedule.
