BOARD RECAP

 

The Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, November 15, 2004 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education.  The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

2.                  Invocation – Mr. John Weber, Pastor, Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance – Christopher Clanton – 1st grade student Robert J. Burch Elementary School

4.                  Comptroller Lee Davis reported that the monthly finances were in order

5.                  Approved certifying results of Bond Referendum held on November 2, 2004

6.                  Recognition:

A.     Presentation of $2,000 to be used to purchase an (AED) Automated External Defibrillator for the Fayette County Evening High School.  The donation was presented by Harry Norman Realtors through their community efforts.

7.                  Appearance:

Ms. Carolyn Jones, parent, concerns about football program at Fayette County High School

8.                  Approved personnel items as presented

9.                  There were three comments from the public

10.              Approved consent agenda with exception #7-12 board policies.  These will be presented at the next meeting for a vote.

11.              Items requiring action by board:

A.     Approved agreement by the Fayette County Board of Education and the City of Peachtree to construct a walking track at Braelinn Elementary School

12.              Superintendent’s reports

A.     Classified job descriptions (Unified)

B.     Bond issue time-line – bonds planned to be sold in February 

C.     Update on Construction Program:

McIntosh High School

Kitchen:  The concrete masonry walls have been constructed.  The roof decking has been installed.  The door frames have been installed.

P.E. Facility:  The main entrance lobby store-front framing has been installed and 50% of the glazing has been set in the frames.  Ceiling grid suspension system is being installed in the locker room, classroom and office areas.

The gym and ancillary spaces are being painted. GA power set the transformer providing permanent power to the P.E. facility.

Sandy Creek High School

The occupancy permit has been issued.  The school dedicated the auditorium (Patriot Hall) Tuesday evening.  The contractor is working on the punch list items.

 

 

New Middle School

We met with the architect to develop schematic design drawings from which we will schedule meetings with curriculum staff to review possible modifications. Our preliminary meeting with the architect was to use the Whitewater, Flat Rock Middle Schools program without the courtyards utilizing the Whitewater High School mechanical corridors and light-wells.

Rising Starr Middle School Addition

We met with the architect to develop schematic design drawings. When schematic design drawings are received we will meet with the principal to refine the design/program.
