The
Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, March 15,
2004 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education. The following actions were taken:

Comptroller James Stephens reported that the monthly finances were in
order

Recognition:
Randall Ponder, Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools presented Whitewater High School Principal, Mr. Greg Stillions, with an accreditation plaque.

Superintendent's Reports
a.
Secondary Language Arts textbook adoption - Ann Richardson recommended
2 different publishers for middle and high school texts.
The cost will be $1.8 million total for middle and
high school Secondary Language Arts adoption.
The text can be reviewed at the schools, LaFayette
Educational Center and the Board of Education.
The texts are on the table for review for 30 days.
b.
Foreign Language textbook adoption - Cathy Geis
stated the cost of the adoption will be $350,000. The texts can be reviewed at the schools, LaFayette Educational Center and the Board of
Education. The texts are on the table
for review for 30 days.
c.
Four proposed Calendars for 2005 - 2006 school year were presented by
Lyn Wenzel. Surveys have already been
completed by teachers, PTO's and school councils. The survey will be made available to the
public via the website.

Georgia School Boards Association position suggestions

Update on construction
The heatpumps can be turned on to provide heat in
the classroom area. Brick is continuing
to be installed in the PE area. The
auditorium ceiling in the seating area is complete and the scaffolding has been
removed. Gypsum board is being installed
in the auditorium aisles, ceiling and walls. Science casework has been
delivered and installation will begin Monday 3-15-04. The metal panels for the high roof areas and
the clerestory glazing have been installed in the media center. The metal
panels are being installed in the cafeteria area.
One side of the PE storage area concrete slab has
been poured. The structural steel for
the lower and upper level is being erected.
The
structural and miscellaneous steel is being erected for the Auditorium. The rooftop HVAC units have arrived at the
site. The contractor has tilled some of
the wet areas of the staff parking lot to turn the soil in order to dry it
out. Gravel will be placed in the
parking lot Friday 3-12-04.
