Board Recap

 

The Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, January 24, 2005 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education.  The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

2.                  Invocation

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance – Clay Crabtree, Justin Heard, Katelin Sinkfield, and Michael Hancock, Sara Harp Minter Elementary School

4.                  Comptroller Lee Davis reported that the monthly finances were in order

5.                  Recognition of Braelinn Elementary School for receiving the National Association for Sports and Physical Education STARS Level 1 School

6.                  Recognition:

a.   outstanding employees including 11 teachers who earned National Board Certification

                  b.   outstanding students

7.         Presentation to Board of Education and Fayette County Schools from the      American Cancer Society – Relay for Life

8.         Appearances:

a.   Ms. Bonnie Kanofsky, School Nutrition Manager, Cleveland Elementary

                  presented the Gold Scroll Award

9.         Personnel items were approved as presented

10.       There were no comments from the public

11.       Approved consent agenda

12.       Items requiring action by the Board:

            a.   Approved tentative Staff Allotment for FY06

13.       Superintendent’s Reports

            a.   Update on Construction Program

                  McIntosh High School

            Kitchen:  The rated gypsum board ceiling has been installed and joint compound is being applied.  The concrete drive and loading dock have been poured.  The kitchen equipment has been delivered.  The equipment under the hood has been set and some of the items have been connected.

            P.E. Facility:  The bleacher installation is being completed.  The contractor is completing the entrance ways and installing door hardware.  The track flooring has been installed.  The entrance lobby floor tile is being completed.  The building inspector is making final inspections and the Fire Marshall is scheduled for a final inspection Thursday, January 20 after school.

            New Middle School:

            We have had three meetings with the architects, reviewing schematic designs.  We are very close to having a schematic design to review with school system curriculum staff.  Civil engineers have completed sub-surface explorations.

 

            Rising Starr Middle School Addition:

            The architects have developed schematic design documents.  We have met with the principal and reviewed the design. Civil engineers have completed sub-surface explorations.

            Peeples and Spring Hill Elementary School Addition:

            The architects have developed schematic design documents.  We have met with the principal and reviewed the design.  Civil engineers have completed sub-surface explorations.

b.   GSBA/GSSA Days at the Capitol – Thursday, February 10, 2005 and Monday, March 14, 2005
