Board Recap

 

The Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, February 28, 2005 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education.  The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

2.                  Invocation – Alan Henderson, Pastor, Southern Crescent Church in Tyrone

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance – Christopher Chaisson, 2nd grade, Simone Chaisson, 4th grade and Etienne Chaisson, 5th grade Braelinn Elementary

4.                  Recognition of Whitewater Middle School Symphonic Band invitation to perform at the 2005 Southern Division Music Educators’ National Conference in Tampa, Florida

5.                  Recognition of employees

6.                  Comptroller Lee Davis reported  that the monthly finances were in order

7.                  Appearances:

a.       Dr. John Merrick – Kiwanis recognition of students

8.                  Personnel items were approved as presented

9.                  There were no comments from the public

10.              Approved consent agenda

11.              Items requiring action by the Board:

a.       Approved changes for summer camps and activities programs

b.      Approved Resolution of the Fayette County Board of Education Opposition to HR 58 to Eliminate School District Taxation

Approved Resolution of the Fayette County Board of Education Opposition to HR 285 to Establish a Start Date for School

c.       Approved easement deed to erect a severe weather warning siren – Fayette county will install at Starr’s Mill High School

12.              Superintendent’s Reports

a.       Update on Construction Program

McIntosh High School

Kitchen:  We have received the Certificate of Occupancy and the school will start serving from the new kitchen Monday, February 28, 2005.

Auditorium:  The boys and girls locker rooms have been demolished. (jack hammered out the locker bases and quarry tile and demolished concrete masonry partitions).  The catwalk structure and spiral stair to the catwalk has been installed.  Concrete block wall construction has begun.

New Middle School

We have had two meetings with the school system staff to review the preliminary plans.  We have received positive feedback.  We have met with the architects to incorporate the information from the staff.  We will meet with the food service director Friday to design the kitchen and serving areas.

Civil engineers sub-surface exploration reports have been given to the architects.

 

Rising Starr Middle School Addition

We have had a meeting with the architects, engineers and maintenance staff to begin the construction phase.

Peeples and Spring Hill Elementary School Addition

We have had a meeting with the architects, engineers and maintenance staff to begin the construction phase.
