BOARD RECAP

 

The Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, August 15, 2005 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education.  The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

2.                  Invocation – Reverend Tony Mirabella, Pastor, Grace Community Church

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance – Girl Scout Troup 163, Marsha McCranie, Leader

                  Kedron, Crabapple Lane and Huddleston Elementary schools

4.                  Monthly financial report – Comptroller Lee Davis will give reports from the last 3 months at the next meeting due to accounting adjustments at

            the state level

5.                  Recognition of retirees

6.                  Recognition of Mr. Eddie Pollard, principal, Tyrone Elementary School, Outstanding Educator Award from the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL)

7.                  Recognition of the Century Club for outstanding substitute teachers – 41 substitutes subbed 100 or more days during 2004 - 2005

8.                  Personnel approved as presented

9.                  There were no comments from the public

10.              Approved consent agenda

11.              Superintendent’s Report

a.       Student Attendance Policy (JB) will sit on the table until the September meeting

b.      Update on construction

                        McIntosh High School

                        Auditorium: The acoustical panels on the two side walls are being installed. The seating installation is approximately 80% complete. The stage wood flooring is on
                        site awaiting temperature and humidity control prior to installation.  The HVAC is approximately 85% complete. The carpet has been installed except on the steps.

                        Kitchen/Cafeteria: The school moved into the cafeteria August 8. The roofing is on-going. The completion of the roofing has been affected by the weather. The
                        kitchen completion is awaiting the custom stainless steel dish tables scheduled to arrive in approximately 4 to 5 weeks.

                        Rising Starr Middle School Addition

                        The contractor has relocated approximately 80% of the storm drainage from under the addition area. The temporary partitions have been constructed at the end of
                        the existing classroom wings to isolate the construction area. Gravel walks and temporary fencing has been installed through the construction area to comply with the
                        fire marshal’s emergency evacuation procedure.

                        New Middle School

                        The construction documents have been completed and are being submitted to the fire marshal, building department and Department of Education and are being
                        reviewed for the quality control by the A/E team. The school is scheduled to bid September 8, 2005.

                        Peeples and Spring Hill Elementary School Additions

                        The architect and engineers have completed the construction documents. The final documents have been approved by the Department of Education.  The first
                        advertisement has run in the newspaper. The contract documents have been issued to the plan rooms. The scheduled bid date is September 13, 2005.

15.              The board voted in favor of moving the staff development office from human resources to education. The office will now report to Pam Riddle, assistant superintendent of education.
