The Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, September 19, 2005 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education. The following actions were taken:

 

1.            Approved agenda

2.            Invocation – moment of silence

3.            Pledge of Allegiance – Zachary and Nathan Noth – 5th Grade, Peeples Elementary School and Samantha Noth – 7th Grade, Rising Starr Middle School

4.            Comptroller Lee Davis reported that the monthly finances were in order

5.            Recognition of Fayette County Schools from the Georgia Accrediting Commission, Inc.

6.            Resolution for National School Lunch Week October 10-14, 2005

7.            Certificate for Fayette County Schools “Gold Medal School District Winner”

8.            FY2003-2004 Audit Report

9.            Personnel approved as presented

10.        There were no comments from the public

11.        Approved consent agenda

12.        Items requiring action by the board

a.                   Approved 2005 Tax Anticipation Note (TAN) – 3.86% interest rate – Regions Bank of Fayette County

b.                  Approved Peeples and Spring Hill Elementary schools addition bids – NWC Construction - $1,436,675

13.        Superintendent’s Reports

a.                   Dual and Joint Enrollment Policy (IDCH) and Regulation (IDCH-R) – on the table for 30 days

b.                  Resolution and Information on Proposal to Replace Property Tax with Sales Tax – will be brought to the board for approval at the October meeting.

c.                   Update on construction program

McIntosh High School

Auditorium:  The auditorium is to be completed for occupancy Monday September 19, 2005.  The audio equipment will still need to be installed and tested.

Kitchen/Cafeteria: The custom stainless steel dish-tables, dishwasher and pulper have been delivered.  Some modifications need to be made to the stainless steel tables and pulper in the next couple of days.  Once modifications are completed the electrical, plumbing and ventilation connections will take place.

Rising Starr Middle School Addition

The contractor has poured the concrete footings at the 600 wing addition.  Footing excavation will begin on the 700 wing addition the week of September 19th.  The bar joists and the metal roofing deck are on site.  The structural steel is to arrive on site September 19th.

New Middle School

The Notice of Award has been issued to the general contractor.

Peeples and Spring Hill Elementary School Addition

The additions bid September 13, 2005.
