BOARD RECAP

 

The Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, March 20, 2006 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education. The following actions were taken:

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem – The Brooks Singers, 4th & 5th grade chorus, Brooks Elementary School

4.                  Approved resolutions for retirees

5.                  Presentation of plaque to Fayette County Schools and certificate to Sara Harp Minter Elementary – American Red Cross

6.                  Recognition of Kedron Elementary as a “Georgia School of Excellence for 2006”

7.                  Presentation of certificate for Fayette County Schools as a “Blue Ribbon School District Winner”

8.                  Monthly Financial Report – Comptroller Lee Davis presented January and February reports.  He stated that the finances are in order.

a)      Erin Roberson, from Assistant Principal Peeples Elementary to Principal, Peeples Elementary, replaces Sandra Watson

b)      Michael G. Morgan, Assistant Human Resources Director

a)      Approved easement for Severe Weather Warning System

b)      Approved bid for surplus property – will draw up a contract contingent on rezoning of property for Four Kings Group for $25,000 per acre.

c)      Approved bid for Sandy Creek High gymnasium bleachers

d)     Approved bid for gymnasium air conditioning at Whitewater Middle and Flat Rock Middle

14.              Superintendent’s Reports

a)   Budget update – Comptroller Lee Davis gave a brief overview of the 2006-07 budget. Workshop will be scheduled in late April. Public input and approval of a tentative budget will take place in May with another opportunity for public input and final approval scheduled for June. The millage rate will be set in July-August.

Bennett’s Mill Middle School

The gymnasium, kitchen and cafeteria concrete slabs have been poured.  Structural steel for the kitchen and mechanical room is on site.  The asphalt track around the football field has been placed. Installation of the below slab storm and sanitary sewer plumbing lines in the classroom       areas is continuing.  The electrical sub-contractor is continuing installing the below slab electrical conduit. The media center area is being prepared for a slab pour.


Rising Starr Middle School Addition

The concrete block walls are 99% complete in all three wings. The brick work has begun on the three classroom wings. The window frame installation has begun on the 800 wing.

Peeples Elementary School Addition

The contractor has poured the concrete building slab. The contractor has performed some demolition work where the new addition adjoins the existing.  The hollow metal door frames are being set in the corridor.

Spring Hill Elementary School Addition

The hollow metal door frames have been set in the corridor. The corridor concrete block walls are being constructed in the corridor in preparation for the mezzanine slab. The steel structure installation has begun.

Flat Rock & Whitewater Middle School

The gymnasium air conditioning documents have been picked up by bidders. The bid date is March 16, 2006

Booth Middle School

The documents for the kitchen and air conditioning of the gymnasium have been approved by the Department of Education.  All modification and renovation work has been approved by the Department of Education.  All bond items except painting and replacement of floor finishes are out to bid.  The bid date is April 11, 2006.

East Fayette Elementary School

The documents for energy management, replacement of roof-top HVAC units and air-conditioning of the gymnasium have been submitted to the Department of Education and have been approved. The bid date is April 20, 2006.

McIntosh High School

The documents for energy management, replacement of roof-top HVAC units and replacement of ceiling tile and grid, installation of marker boards, the modification to construct a Health Occupations lab have been submitted to the Department of Education and were approved.  The bid date for all items, except the Health Occupations lab, is April 25, 2006

Brooks Elementary School

The topographic and boundary survey has begun for the classroom addition. The architects and engineers have been given the project program for the addition, air-conditioning of the kitchen, renovation the media auxiliary spaces, replacement of the gym roof, and replacement of the roof-top HVAC units.

Fayette Middle School

The architects and engineers have been given the project program for air-conditioning the gymnasium, renovation of the kitchen and replacement of the roof-top HVAC units.

15.              Other matters: Lee Wright was chosen as the delegate and Greg Powers as the alternate for the Ga. School Boards Association Conference. Lee Wright gave a report on the large system consortium.
