BOARD RECAP

 

The Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, June 19, 2006 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education .The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

2.                  Invocation – Father Dan Brigham, St. Andrews in the Pines Episcopal Church in Peachtree City

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance

4.                  Comptroller Lee Davis reported that the monthly finances are in order

5.                  Approved personnel as presented including reclassification of Allen Leonard, from teacher to assistant principal at Fayette County High School. He replaces Scott John.

6.                  There were two comments from the public

7.                  Approved consent agenda

8.                  Items requiring action by the Board

a.       Approved Smaller Learning Community Grant

b.      Approved Career Technology Local Plan for FY 2006-07

c.       Approved Resolution/Incorporation of Georgia Education Coalition, Inc.

d.      Approved Whitewater High School Certificate of Completion

e.       Approved Adoption of the FY 2007 Budget

f.       Approved Student Code of Conduct – Elementary/Secondary

g.      Approved Reserve for Town of Tyrone Water and Sewer Agreement

9.                  Superintendent’s reports

a.       Redistrict Lines for Bennett’s Mill Middle School – a group will be formed to begin looking at new secondary boundary lines for the 2007-2008 school year

b.      Update on Construction Program

Bennett’s Mill Middle School

All of the building concrete slabs have been poured.  The structural steel has been erected over approximatley 75% of the classroom area.  The metal roofing deck has been installed over the media, technology, kitchen and administration areas.

Concrete masonry unit wall construction and door frame installation is on going in the media, technology, art, band, chorus, strings and administration areas.

The ballfield has been sodded.

Rising Starr Middle School Addition

The brick exterior wall is complete on the 700 classroom wing,95% complete on the 800 classroom wing and 30% complete on the 600 classroom wing. The HVAC systems are operational in all three classroom wings. The walls have been painted in all three wings.  The ceiling grid has been installed in the three wings.  Ninety percent of the doors have been installed in the three wings.

Peeples Elementary School Addition

The brick construction is complete for the addition and the connector.  The walls have been painted in the addition.  The ceiling grid has been installed in the addition. The windows in the addition have been installed.

The demolition in the existing three classrooms to be modified into half size is complete.  The new walls to divide the classrooms are 85%        complete, the new door frames have been installed and the CMU needs to be toothed into the frames.


 

Spring Hill Elementary School Addition

The brick construction is complete for the addition and the connector.  The walls have been painted in the addition.  The ceiling grid has been installed in the addition.  The windows in the addition have been installed.  The demolition in the existing four classrooms to be modified into half size is complete.  The new walls to divide the classrooms are complete, the new door frames have been installed and the CMU needs to be toothed into the frames.

Flat Rock & Whitewater Middle School Gyms

The four roof curbs have been installed for the roof-top HVAC units.  The spiral-duct work installation has begun.  

Booth Middle School

The kitchen equipment has been removed from the kitchen.  The serving line floor slab has been demolished.  The new steel lintel channel has been installed and wall demolition has begun.

The ceiling tile and grid demolition has been completed in two sectors and installation of the new grid and ceiling tile has begun.

East Fayette Elementary School

The electrical panel installation for the gym HVAC installation is 75% complete.  Concrete slabs have been poured for the gym condensing units and the condensing units have been set in place.

McIntosh High School

The replacement of roof-top HVAC units has been ordered and is scheduled to arrive in July. The roof-curb for the new health occupations lab has arrived.

Brooks Elementary School

The architects and engineers working on schematic design drawings for the addition, air-conditioning of the kitchen, renovation of the media auxiliary spaces, replacement of the gym, roof and replacement of the roof-top HVAC units. This document will be ready to submit to the Department of Education in the next couple of weeks.

Fayette Middle School

a.       The architects and engineers have submitted schematic design drawings for the renovation of the kitchen, air-conditioning the gymnasium and replacement of the roof-top HVAC units to the Department of Education.

b.      2007-2008 School Calendar – Lyn Wenzel presented 4 options. The calendars will be put on the website and parent comment will be sought when students return to school.

c.       Report from District Attorney on Prosecution of Illegal Students

d.      Policy JBCCA – on table for 30 days

10.              There were no other matters to come before the board
