BOARD RECAP

 

The Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, November 13, 2006 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education. The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance – Helen Davison, Casey Keen, Hannah Todd, Miara Bryant, and Anna Simmerman, Junior Girl Scout Troop #267 Huddleston Elementary School

a.       Fayette County High School Marching Tiger Band

b.      Employee recognition

5.                  Monthly Financial Report – due to the staff attending a conference last week, the financial report for November will be presented at the December meeting

6.                  Approved personnel items as presented

a.       Approved High Schools/Middle School Attendance Zones for 2007-2008

b.      Approved agreement between the Department of Juvenile Justice-Fayette County and the Fayette County School System

c.       Approved Option #1 with flexibility to look at a northern site of time-line, location and funding of our proposed two new elementary schools

Bennett’s Mill Middle School

Concrete masonry wall construction is continuing in the classroom areas and is approximately 80% complete. Concrete masonry wall construction is continuing in the boys and girls P.E. areas. Brick wall construction is approximately 95% complete. Plumbing piping is being installed in the vocational area. Electrical panels have been installed in all the electrical rooms. Water source heat pump loop lines have been installed down each of the mechanical corridors. The walk-in cooler and freezer have been installed. Block filler and one coat of paint has been applied to the technology lab, computer lab, health classroom and the restrooms in the same area. Two coats of paint have been applied to the walls in the kitchen and serving line area.

 

Fayette Middle School

The existing concrete slab in the kitchen area has been demolished and removed. The mechanical equipment in the kitchen has been removed.  The wall openings in the existing wall between the kitchen and former chorus room have been cut. Some new concrete block has been installed in existing openings that are to be closed. Below slab plumbing piping has begun.

 

Brooks Elementary School

The architects and engineers are re-designing the addition to reduce the size. The revised documents will be submitted to Department of Education for approval Monday November 13, 2006.  I have been in contact with the Department of Education architect who has assured me of a quick approval.  The project is scheduled to re-bid December 14, 2006.

 

Oak Grove Elementary School

The architects have received preliminary approval from the Department of Education.  The architects and engineers are working on the contract documents.
