The Fayette County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, March 19, 2007 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education. The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

2.                  Invocation – Reverend Scott Pickering, Pastor, Hopewell United Methodist Church, Tyrone

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance – Girl Scout Troop #184, Natalie Baker, Alexa Bilsky and Emily Bunker, Kedron Elementary School

4.                  Recognitions

a.       Georgia School of Excellence – Tyrone Elementary School – postponed

b.      Title I Distinguished Schools

      Peachtree City Elementary, Fayetteville Intermediate School – postponed;

East Fayette Elementary School, Oak Grove Elementary School and Hood Avenue Elementary

5.                  Comptroller Lee Davis reported that the finances were in order

6.                  Approved personnel items as presented including the reclassification of the following:

Jennifer Couch, teacher at Kedron Elementary, to assistant principal of J. C. Booth Middle. She replaces Rae Pressley-King.

Mystic Thompson, teacher at Flat Rock Middle, to assistant principal of Sandy Creek High. She replaces Stephen Gill.

Julie Cartrett, School Nutrition Program Director, LaFayette Educational Center. She replaces Cheryl Calhoun.

Kristin Berryman, principal of Hood Avenue Elementary, to principal of Peachtree City Elementary.

Kiawana Kennedy, principal of Peachtree City Elementary, to principal of Hood Avenue Elementary.

Bennett’s Mill Middle School

The asphalt paving is completed. The bus canopy metal panel installation is 80% completed.  The gymnasium maple fooring is approximately 40% completed.  The exterior and interior doors have been installed.  The ceramic tile floors in the restrooms is approximately 90% completed. The classroom general casework is on site and being installed. The locker installation is approximately 98% completed. The ceiling grid has been installed in the classrooms, media and administrative areas. The light fixtures have been installed in approximately 90% of the building. 

Fayette Middle School

The walls and door frames have been painted.  Approximately 90% of the doors have been intalled.  The quarry tile has been installed in the kitchen and serving line areas. The kitchen vent hood is on site. The walk-in freezer/cooler is scheduled to arrive March 20, 2007.

Brooks Elementary School

The concrete slab has been poured.  Approximately 70% of the concrete masonry walls have been constructed. The roofing metal deck and bar joists are on site. The bar joist roof structure installation has begun. The brick has been delivered to the site. 

Oak Grove Elementary School

The project has been bid.

New Elementary School # 1

The architect and engineers construction documents are complete. The scheduled bid date is April 10, 2007.
