BOARD RECAP

 

The Board of Education met in regular session on December, Monday, 17, 2007 in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education. The following actions were taken:

 

1.                  Approved agenda

2.                  Invocation – Tom Myers, Pastor, Covenant Presbyterian in Fayetteville

3.                  Pledge of Allegiance – Jared Demeter and Nicholas Fink – 5 Grade

       Duncan Wisniewski and Ryan Smith – 3 Grade

       Sara Harp Minter Elementary School

4.                  Student Recognition: Olivia Tucker selected to be on the State Board of 

Education Student Advisory Council

5.                  Employees Recognition: Lisa Fine selected as “GASSP High School Assistant  Principal of the Year for Georgia

6.                  Recognitions:

a.       McIntosh High School  Receives Blue Ribbon School Award

b.      Fayette County School Board Receives Board of Distinction Award

c.       Pacesetter Award for Special Education Services and Supports

d.      Leader in Georgia for Outstanding Performance of Students with Disabilities

7.                  Comptroller Laura Brock reported that the monthly finances are in order

8.                  Approved personnel as presented

9.                  There were eight comments from the public

10.              Approved consent agenda

11.              Items requiring action by the Board

a.       Elementary school boundaries – Map BA approved with changes that were discussed. Public hearings will be held for the repurposing of East Fayette Elementary for 2008-2010.

b.      Approved GREAT Plan Resolution

c.       Approved GEC Legislative Priorities Resolution

d.      Approved Finance and Purchasing Policies

a.       Update of Construction Program

Oak Grove Elementary School

The contractor has received the Certificate of Completion from the Peachtree City building officials. The kitchen is ready for the food service staff to begin moving in. The demonstrations of the new kitchen equipment will occur the week of December 17th. 

Inman Elementary School

The concrete slabs have been poured for the mezzanine in Sectors “C” & “D.” The structural steel erection is 99% completed in Sectors “C” & “D.”  Masonry wall construction is 95% completed in Sectors “C” & “D” and ongoing in the media, administration, cafeteria and kitchen areas.  Damp-proofing has been applied on the exterior wythe of the concrete masonry walls and brick construction has begun in the courtyard area.  The roofing damp-proofing membrane installation below the metal roofing has begun in Sector “D.” The HVAC loop line installation has begun in Sector “D.” The septic field lines and tanks have been installed. The gas company is installing the gas line down highway 92 to the site.

New Elementary School #2

The construction documents are 98% completed. The documents have been submitted to the Department of Education for final approval. The project is scheduled to bid February 7, 2008.

b.   Proposed the name Rivers Elementary for the Tillman Road School – will sit on table for 30 days
