No Child Left Behind Act
On January 8, 2002, President Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001 that reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). NCLB significantly raises expectations for states, local school districts and schools in that all students will meet or exceed state standards in reading and mathematics within twelve years.

NCLB requires all states, including the State of Georgia, to establish state academic standards and a state testing system that meet federal requirements. Georgia received final approval of its state accountability plan from the US Department of Education on May 19, 2003, and revisions to the plan were approved by the federal government on June 7, 2004.

Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)

Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is one of the cornerstones of the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. It is a measure of year-to-year student achievement on statewide assessments. Click here to visit.

Georgia Department of Education
The following link will take you to the website for the Office of Student Achievement. At the website are links for the Georgia Department of Education school report cards and the Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) reports generated by No Child Left Behind legislation. Both links provide you with information regarding summaries of performances on national and state assessments as well as other educational indicators such as attendance rates, demographics, and graduation rates. The information is reported for the school system and for individual schools within the system: www.gaosa.org

Information about the different assessments administered in grades K-12 can be found on the Georgia Department of Education website, www.doe.k12.ga.us.  Click on “Student Testing” then click on the assessment for which you want more information.

Annual Education Accountability Report Cards
The Governor's Office of Student Achievement (OSA) was established July 1, 2000 by the state law known as the A Plus Education Reform Act. The mission of OSA is to provide accountability for all of Georgia's education system from prekindergarten through postsecondary levels that will result in:
  • Improving student achievement and
  • Improving school completion
As part of this mission, OSA presents its sixth annual report on Georgia's public K-12 schools. With the 2004-2005 Report Card, OSA presented the Single Statewide Accountability System (SSAS) for Georgia's K-12 schools. OSA hopes that the information contained in this report and future reports will provide teachers, parents, and students with valuable information regarding schools and school districts and challenge communities to improve education for all of Georgia's children.  Click here to go to the 2007-08 Report.
