Fayette County Pre-Kindergarten Program
     Updated 1/30/08
 Pre-Kindergarten Registration Announcement

The following schools will have Pre-K programs in the 2008-2009 school year:  Brooks, Crabapple Lane, East Fayette (Inman), Hood Avenue, North Fayette, Oak Grove, Peachtree City and Robert J. Burch Elementary.  Students must be four years old on or before September 1, 2008, to be eligible for the Pre-K program.

Pre-K registration will begin on February 28, 2008 from 7:30-9:00am and 4:00-6:00pm at the above elementary schools and continue through April 3.  The lottery drawing will be held on April 4.

You must present residency information and a birth certificate to be eligible for the lottery drawing for the preschool class.  At the time of registration you must complete the enrollment form and the state lottery form.  If your child is selected you will be notified, and you must then return to the school and provide the remaining documentation.  See below for registration guidelines and procedures.

If you would like more information on the lottery programs you may contact Clarice Howard at 770-486-0149 or peruse the Bright from the Start website.

 Guidelines

Students in the Pre-Kindergarten Program must be four years of age on or before September 1.  Parents may enroll their child at the school in their attendance area if the child is four years old.

Ø        Due to a limited number of available openings at each school, there are no transfers for pre-kindergarten.

Ø        Twenty names will be drawn for each class.  Twins, triplets, or siblings born in the same year will be registered and drawn together unless it is for the twentieth opening.  In this case, if no other opening becomes available before school begins, the parent or guardian must make a decision whether or not to accept the available opening.

Ø        The principal or his/her designees (must include a non employee PTO Rep or School Council Member) in each school will draw the names and the assistant principal or other school personnel will record the names and number the registration forms in the order in which they are drawn.  School personnel will notify each parent by mail and/or telephone.

Ø        Children who are on the waiting list the day of the lottery drawing or who register after the drawing will be notified of an opening in the order in which they were added to the waiting list.

Ø        The county school calendar will be followed.  School time is from 7:45 am – 2:30 pm.

Ø        Each site has a certified teacher and paraprofessional.

Ø        Parents are expected to volunteer in the classroom, attend field trips, and participate in activities at home, such as reading to their child and completing provided activities.

Ø        The Fayette County Attendance/Tardy Policy applies.

Ø        There are no before or after school programs for pre-kindergarten.

Ø        The state requires that parents attend two conferences.

The order in which the names are drawn is:

  1. All names of students in specified district are drawn randomly.

  2. All names of students in county but out of attendance area are drawn randomly.

  3. The waiting list will follow the above procedures with an in-district list and an out-of-district list.
