Fayette Tops State and Nation on SAT
August 28, 2007
Fayette’s 2007 high school
graduates scored exceptionally well on the most recent administration of the
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), soaring above both state and national
averages, according to results released today by the College Board.
Fayette’s students posted an
overall average score of 1,548 – 76 points above that of the state and 37
points over the national average. Like the entire nation, Fayette saw a drop
in its 2007 SAT scores. Fayette’s score dropped 7 points from the previous
year while the state’s score fell 5 points and the nation down 7 points.
“Although our scores dropped
a little from last year, we are still pleased with how our students
performed on the SAT. Once again Fayette’s score is soaring above both the
state and national average thanks to the hard work of our dedicated
teachers, administrators, students and parents. While Fayette’s scores are
high, there is room for improvement. We will work to determine why our score
dropped this year and, based on what we determine, take the appropriate
measures to help all of our students perform at their personal best,” says
Superintendent John DeCotis.
The breakdown of Fayette’s
scores is as follows: 515 critical reading, 529 mathematics and 504 writing.
Fayette outscored both the state and the nation in all test sections. The
county’s score is 21 points above the state and 13 points over the nation in
critical reading, 34 above the state and 14 beyond the nation in mathematics
and 21 over the state and 10 above the nation in writing.
A total of 1,480 high school
graduates took the SAT in Fayette. In comparison to other large systems in
Georgia, Fayette had the second highest score in the state.
