Distinguished Schools Receive Over $10,000
January 16, 2007
Seven Fayette
elementary schools have been designated
“distinguished” and awarded more than $10,000
combined from the Georgia Department of
Education.
All of the county’s
Title 1 elementary schools earned the Title 1
Distinguished School award, meaning the schools
have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under
No Child Left Behind for three or more years.
These schools are among 600 statewide that are
receiving monetary awards for their efforts.
Monetary awards are given to schools that have
been Title 1 Distinguished for two or more
years.
North Fayette and
Robert J. Burch have met AYP for eight years and
will receive an award of $3,684 each.
Peachtree City
Elementary has logged five years of meeting AYP
and receives $800.
Fayetteville
Intermediate, East Fayette, Oak Grove and Hood
Avenue Primary have all met AYP for four years
and will be awarded $525 each.
The awards received
by the schools must be used for an educational
purpose such as implementation of special
school-wide projects, the purchase of
instructional resources and supplies or bonuses
for principals, teachers and staff.
The monetary awards
are paid for by federal Title 1 funds allocated
under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
