Elementary Teams Finish in Top 10 at State Science Olympiad
June 11, 2007
Fayette’s youngest scientists proved they are
among the best in the state by earning top
awards in the Elementary State Science Olympiad
Invitational Tournament.
Five schools had top 10 finishes with Braelinn
placing among the three best teams in the state
with their third place finish. Huddleston and
Kedron followed closely with fourth and fifth
place finishes, respectively. Rounding out the
top 10 was Oak Grove, eighth place and Crabapple
Lane, ninth place.
Nearly 700 elementary students competed in the 6th
annual statewide event at Kennesaw State
University last month.
Science Olympiad provides students with a
variety of highly engaging activities that
naturally generate interest, enthusiasm and
passion for scientific exploration. The
inquiry-based, hands-on program covers earth,
life and physical science topics. It also
incorporates both engineering and technological
principles.
Competitors work in
teams of two to complete events such as “mystery
architecture,” “rubber band catapult” and
“weather or not.” Teams compete in a total of 18
events.
