Students Demonstrate Physical Fitness
June 12, 2007
East Fayette Elementary took the President’s
Challenge and proved they are serious about
being physically fit.
Students in grades 3-5 participated in the
Challenge, a program that encourages all
Americans to make being active a part of their
everyday lives. Participants took a physical
fitness test to determine their level of
physical fitness in five events: curl-ups or
partial curl-ups, shuttle run, endurance
run/walk, pull-ups or right angle push-ups and
V-sit or sit and reach.
Awards were given in two categories, National
and Presidential. Approximately 70 East Fayette
students earned the National award, given to
those who scored in the 50th
percentile on all five events indicating a
basic, yet challenging, level of physical
fitness.
Two students received the Presidential award
that recognizes an outstanding level of physical
fitness. Participants must score at or above the
85th
percentile to be eligible for the award.
“These
students were determined to pass the test.
Several asked me to take the tests over until
they passed. I am very proud of each of these
students for what they have accomplished,” says
Al Huff, physical education teacher.
