Once again a Fayette middle school will represent
Georgia at the National Science Olympiad.
J.C. Booth took the state championship at the Georgia
Science Olympiad held at Augusta State University on
March 24. Coached by science teacher Mary Wilde, the
school’s team took 12 first place medals and earned a
total of 15 medals in 23 events.
Fayette had a good showing at the competition with three
of its middle school teams placing in the top five.
Rising Starr was awarded fourth place with Whitewater
placing fifth. More than 50 teams from across the state
participated in the tournament.
As the champions, Booth’s team will go on to compete in
the National Science Olympiad at the Wichita State
University in Wichita, Kansas on May 19. Booth has won
the national title nine out of the last 11 years. This
year will mark the school’s 14th
trip to nationals.
