Students at Sandy Creek High celebrated Red Ribbon Week by participating
in a variety of activities including several contests where students won
nearly $500 in prizes.
The
purpose of the week is to heighten students’ awareness about the dangers
of drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse. This year’s theme was “Your Natural
High.”
A
number of local businesses helped make the event successful by donating
prizes. Local businesses participating included
the Dwarf House in Fayetteville, Box Car
Cafe, Malt Shoppe, Chapultapec Mexican Restaurant, Partners Pizza in
Tyrone, Salon 74, Dragon House, Papa John's Pizza and Shamrock
Restaurant. Also, A Blue Lady Florist and Be-Dazzled Florist
(Sharpsburg) provided red ribbons that decorated the school.
In addition to local donations, a number of
volunteers contributed to the success of Red Ribbon Week including the
school’s CARE (Children at Risk in Education) team members, technology
teacher Bill Fine who shot photos throughout the week, art teacher
Dorrie Fletcher and education teacher Linda Keever whose students made
posters advertising the event.
The Sandy Creek High Patriot Ambassadors,
specially selected students who mentor new students as they acclimate to
the high school, sponsored Red Ribbon Week October 22-26.
