One of our goals at East Fayette is to increase reading achievement by providing positive, enjoyable reading experiences for children. We have developed a program called "Master Reader" for our classrooms. Our Master Readers are retired teachers, grandparents, parents, businessmen/women, and adults from our Adopt a School partners, anyone with a love of children and reading. These Master Readers have attended an orientation meeting and four times a year receive an invitation to read aloud to one of our classes. They sign up for a grade level with which they are comfortable and then receive a confirmation letter from the East Fayette Reading Committee informing them of the class to which they will read. Our Master Readers read from an approved book, whether a book from our own Media Center or a personal copy of a book. Personal copies must be sent to our Reading committee for approval two weeks before the reading date. On a selected Thursday at 1:05 p.m., every class enjoys one of our Master Readers sharing their love of books. (Just imagine 32 Master Readers in the building - all at one time.) They usually prepare an activity that will go along with their story or subject. These readers utilize costumes, props, cooking activities, but most of all - themselves - to create a wonderful read-aloud experience for our children. What a joy these Master Readers bring to our children. There is always an overwhelming response to this program. If you would like more information about this program or to volunteer your time and love of reading, please contact Sue Paggen by email or call the school at 770-460-3565. We welcome anyone who wishes to help our children. Master Reader Dates for 2007-2008: Orientation Thursday, Sept. 27th Reading Dates: Thurs., October 26th Thurs., November 29th Thurs., January 24th Mon., March 3rd (Dr. Seuss - Read Across America Day!)
