Our school strives to achieve success by using best practices to enhance our students’ academic performance and leadership skills. Through the implementation of The Leader in Me and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) we have continued to build on our mission to “Empower Students for Success.”
PBIS is one of those best practices. It is a proactive approach to establish the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students to achieve social, emotional and academic success. Introducing, modeling, and reinforcing positive social behavior is an important step of a student's educational experience. Teaching behavioral expectations and rewarding students for following them is a positive approach to maintain a caring and productive learning environment.
Adopting the acronym R.O.A.R. (Respectful, Obedient, Attentive, and Responsible), our PBIS Team has worked to develop our school-wide expectation matrix, create lessons to teach the expectations, and post them throughout the school. We have attached a copy of our R.O.A.R. expectation matrix which we challenge each student to practice daily.
We are confident that our students know what we expect in each school setting. However, this year we want to move beyond teaching and begin recognizing and rewarding positive behavior by introducing our Cub Cash Reward System. Using this system, students who exhibit a positive desired behavior will be rewarded by being given CUB Cash. Each grade level has agreed upon a list of rewards that can be purchased with the student’s cash. Your child’s positive reward list is attached for you and your child to review. In addition to classroom rewards, we will also promote an Item of the Week on the morning broadcast that each child can use their cash for a chance to win. Additionally, we will reward classes for positive behavior in the cafeteria and bus drivers will distribute tickets that can be traded in for $5 in CUB Cash!!!
To increase the purchasing opportunities of our CUB Cash we plan to open a PBIS Store in January. The store will allow students to purchase school supplies, FES accessories, and other fun items of their choice. However, we need parent volunteers to run the store. If you are interested in volunteering please contact me!
Again, the success of our students is a joint effort between home and school. We encourage you to discuss our school expectations as well as develop your own. When we return to school on Tuesday, October 11th our CUB Cash Reward System will be in full swing!
Thanks for your continued support!
