Most teachers spend a significant amount of their own money to stock their classrooms with books, learning materials, and supplies. On average, teachers shell out up to $600 a year. This can be especially financially burdensome to first-year teachers who are setting up their classrooms for the first time, and have more limited financial means.
Wil C. Heath,, owner of Walls of Books in Peachtree City, understands the needs of first-year teachers, and has adopted two local elementary school educators who he has given books to this year to help them build their classroom libraries. The teachers are Shannon Knowles, who teaches kindergarten at Crabapple Lane Elementary, and Haley Wright, a first grade teacher at Braelinn Elementary.
Heath recently donated books to Knowles’ classroom at Crabapple Lane Elementary. Knowles says some parents recommended her for the sponsorship.
“A few days after learning that we got the sponsorship, our books were dropped off by a kind employee for our kindergarten classroom. The students and I were so excited and grateful for the support from a local business,” she says.
