Students Qualify for DECA International Competition


A total of 20 students from Sandy Creek High and Whitewater High schools have qualified to compete at the DECA International Career Development Conference based on their superior performance at the state-level competition.Students Qualify for DECA International Competition

The students are (Sandy Creek High) Zachary Vinson, first place, Business Services Marketing; Hayley Webb and Sarah Ohlmeier, seventh place, Buying and Merchandising; Andre Teague, third place, Financial Consulting; Briana Parks and Lauren Apo, seventh place, Financial Services; Vy Tran and Amalie Rosales, third place, Innovation Plan; Ruthanne Degrange, fifth place, Marketing Communications; Alex Tomlin and Alexa Irias, fifth place, Marketing Management; Jessica Green, sixth place, Personal Finance Literacy; Maya Dacres, fourth place, Principles of Hospitality and Tourism; Kate Weinhardt and Sophia Bonser, fifth place, Travel and Tourism; (Whitewater High) Dymond Moore, fifth place, Apparel and Accessories Marketing; Aliaahil Lilywala, fifth place, Business Finance; Megan Brubaker, second place, Professional Selling; Quentin Byrd and Madias Loper, sixth place, Sports and Entertainment Marketing.

Also competing at the international conference is Glenn MacDonald who qualified earlier this year for the Virtual Business Challenge finals. He is competing in the retail track of the challenge. He took first place in the state, and is in sixth place nationally.

Fayette’s students will compete against more than 10,000 DECA students from throughout the nation during the competitive events program at the international conference that is taking place in Anaheim, California April 26-29.

DECA’s industry-validated competitive events are aligned with the National Curriculum Standards in the career clusters of marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism. DECA’s flagship evaluation process involves students in both a written component such as an exam or report, and an interactive component with an industry professional serving as a judge.
