Three SkillsUSA Students Advance to National Competition


A total of three students from McIntosh High and Sandy Creek High schools took first place honors in their events at the SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership and Skills Conference and have qualified to compete at the national level.Three SkillsUSA Students Advance to National Competition

Leigh Wheeler of McIntosh High will compete in Pin Design, Megan D’Errico of Sandy Creek High will compete in T-Shirt Design and Presentation, and Cameron King of Sandy Creek High will compete in Photography at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky in June. 
 
 
National and state club officers from Sandy Creek High will also represent Georgia at the national conference. They are Helen Smith, national region II vice-president, and Cameron King, SkillsUSA Georgia state secretary for the 2016-17 school year.

All totaled, 20 students from McIntosh and Sandy Creek High schools earned medals at the state competition. In addition to the first place award winners in nationally recognized competitive events previously listed, the followings students also earned a gold, silver or bronze medal in their events: (McIntosh High) Moritz Meditz, gold, Georgia T-Shirt Design; and Moritz Meditz, Mark Ni, Man Shah, James Wang, and Jonathan Zhang, bronze, Quiz Bowl; (Sandy Creek High) Meredith Beard, gold, Applied Communication 11-12 grade; Anya Kerkemeyer, gold, Georgia Statesman Pin Design; Cameron King, gold, Georgia T-Shirt Design; Brianna Powers, Gulilla Mulugeta, and Bryce Rawson, bronze, Community Service Project and Presentation; Andrew Alberts, Tommy Ennis, and Dominic Adams, bronze, Career Pathways Showcase: Engineering; Summer Mashburn, bronze, Georgia Statesman Pin Design; and Ethan Toone, bronze, Culinary.

Additionally, Amalie Rosales was elected to serve as a SkillsUSA Georgia State Officer for the 2017-2018 school year.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps high school and college students enrolled in career and technical education programs to excel by teaching employability skills such as communication, problem solving, and leadership in conjunction with their trade, technical and service occupation skills.
