Out of the 2,323 high schools that made the national list, Fayette County High ranked 1,920; McIntosh High ranked 768; Sandy Creek High ranked 2,040; Starr’s Mill High ranked 1,138; and Whitewater High ranked 1,352.

The ranking is based on the total number of Advanced Placement tests given at a school each year and divided by the number of seniors who graduated in May. Public schools that achieved a ratio of at least 1.00, meaning they had as many tests in 2016 as they had graduates, were put on the national list. Only 12 percent of the approximately 22,000 U.S. public high schools reached the minimum standard or above to earn placement on the list.
