Math Students Have Strong Performance at Regional Competition

Fayette students dominated the individual winners overall category at both the middle and high school competitions. At the middle school level, Irene Kwon of J.C. Booth took first place, Owen Conoly of Whitewater Middle took second place, and Audra Daniel of Rising Starr Middle took third place. At the high school level, there was a tie for first place between Joshua Tysor of Starr’s Mill High and Jiaxing Liu of McIntosh High, James Wang of McIntosh took second place, and J.C. Talbott of Starr’s Mill High took third place.

Fayette’s middle schools nearly swept Division II (medium schools) with Whitewater Middle taking first place and Rising Starr Middle securing third place. J.C. Booth took first place in Division III (larger schools).

Fayette’s high schools took first place honors in all three divisions of their competition and nearly swept one division. Sandy Creek High placed first in Division I (smaller schools), Whitewater High placed first in Division II (medium schools), and McIntosh High placed first in Division III (larger schools) with Starr’s Mill High placing second in the same division.

Approximately 150 students competed in both the middle and high school math contests. The Griffin RESA Regional Math Contests are for middle and high schools in the school systems of Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding, and Upson.
