What is the International Baccalaureate?

  • The International Baccalaureate is an organization that provides educational programs for students aged 3-19. IB programs challenge students to excel in their studies and encourage both personal and academic achievement. It focuses on helping the student become inquisitive, reflective, active in their community, independent, respectful and compassionate towards their fellow human beings. It also emphasizes open-mindedness, tolerance and fosters global awareness in students.

The IB Diploma Program is for students aged 16-19. It is a two-year program that students start their Junior year of high school (11th grade) at the end of which they can earn a high school diploma that is recognized all over the world.

International Baccalaureate® (IB) students undertake one of the most challenging education programs available to them. They are ambitious, and well-prepared for success — in further study, and in life beyond.

By studying in the IB, students develop core skills for success at university. Through their programs, students develop:

    • an understanding of and appreciation for research
    • presentation and communication skills
    • critical thinking skills
    • report writing skills
    • a sense of international-mindedness and cultural understanding
    • time management skills.

    The IB DP Curriculum

The Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay.

Through the Diploma Programme (DP) core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service.

  • The IB Learner Profile

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success.
