Dual Enrollment
Dual Enrollment Program
The Fayette County School System is pleased to partner with several institutions of higher learning to offer dual enrollment opportunities for Fayette County students. By participating in dual enrollment, students can earn high school and college credit simultaneously in a variety of core academic and career technical courses. Dual enrollment is open to students in grades 10-12 who complete an FCBOE dual enrollment application and meet the admission requirements of the college in which they are interested in enrolling. See each individual college for their admission requirements.
Most students in the Fayette County School System enroll at one of the following providers for dual enrollment: Clayton State University Fayette, Southern Crescent Technical College, University of West Georgia or Point University, although other institutions are also possible. Clayton State University Fayette and Southern Crescent Technical College are housed in the Fayette County Schools’ Center of Innovation at 250 S Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree City, whereas Point University is located in Westpark Walk in Peachtree City and the University of West Georgia is located in Carrollton, with a satellite campus in Newnan.
Information Sessions for Current Students
Required dual enrollment informational meetings for the coming year are scheduled early in the second semester (January and February) at the Center of Innovation at 250 S. Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree City. If you are interested in dual enrollment for the coming school year, make plans to attend one of the mandatory information sessions at the Center of Innovation in Peachtree City. At that session, you will learn more about the dual enrollment application process and have the opportunity to meet with representatives from our major college providers. The application process for the coming school year typically opens in January and closes in April with informational meeting dates (typically in January and February) announced in November.
More information concerning application requirements and deadlines can be found in each high school's Schoology Counseling Course.
Eligibility for Newly Enrolled Students
In most cases, the Fayette County Public Schools requires a newly enrolled student to sit-out of dual enrollment his/her first semester as a student with the FCPS so that educational professionals can effectively ascertain whether or not the student is academically and socially ready for dual enrollment. If the new student is already enrolled or is in the process of enrolling in dual enrollment through his/her old school/home school, he/she may have already proven his/her academic acumen. In such cases, the parents/guardians of the student may submit an appeal form which asks dual enrollment leadership to consider a waiver of the one semester sit-out procedure. The decision of dual enrollment leadership is final and may not be further appealed. Contact your future school counselor or the dual enrollment coordinator to receive the appeal form prior to enrolling in college courses.
