ECS Records Requests

Fayette County Public Schools maintains Exceptional Education records in accordance with state and federal regulations to ensure the privacy and accuracy of student information. Parents, guardians, eligible students, and authorized representatives may request access to, copies of, or the transfer of Exceptional Education records by completing the form below. If you have questions about the request process, please contact our office for assistance.

If you are making the request for yourself or you are a parent or guardian making the request, please complete the following request form:  ECS Records Request

Notification of Destruction of Special Education Records  

The Fayette County School System archives and stores special education student records from the Special Education Department for a limited time according to the Common Records Retention Schedules for school systems, under the Georgia Archives University System of Georgia (LG-06-051).

In accordance with state and federal regulations implementing the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), this notice is to inform you of Fayette County Public School’s (FCPS) intent to destroy personally identifiable information related to special education services maintained on students who received special education services under an Individual Education Plan while attending FCPS but who are no longer enrolled due to graduation or reaching the age of 22. These records may be destroyed after June 30th, one year following the graduation or age of 22.  

Please be advised that the records may be needed by you for social security benefits or other purposes.  

Records that may be destroyed include:

  • Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Evaluation Reports – Test Protocols
  • Review of Existing Data Summaries
  • All other personally identifiable information within the Special Education file  

The reason for the destruction of the above listed items is because they are no longer needed to provide educational services.
