PTC Elem. ventures into Wonderland

Peachtree City Elementary turned into Wonderland through an immersive learning experience.

Students in Brandi Thornton’s 4th grade enrichment class read “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and studied a wide variety of literary elements. They also explored life during the Victorian Era and solved brain teasers based on Lewis Carroll's love of a good number or word challenge.

As a culmination to the unit, students created slideshows and designed tri-folds to teach their peers about something they learned during their studies. There were presentations on puns, parodies, portmanteaus, doublets, anagrams, rebus puzzles, non de plums, mercury poisoning from hats, and much more, all while in costume. Parents got to visit the school to see the presentations, too.

Thornton was pleased to see the kids dive into the activity.

“Creating the tri-folds and slideshows helped the students retain information they had learned during the unit and gave them the chance to refine their presentation skills because they presented several times to different groups of peers.”
