Volunteer Mandated Reporter Training
-
Dear Fayette County Public Schools Volunteer,
Thank you again for volunteering in our schools! We sincerely
appreciate your interest in helping our students and schools
excel.
As you may already know, at the beginning of the school year,
our district launched a new visitor check-in system with a kiosk in
the front office at each of our schools. Currently our visitors
check-in as Guests on the kiosk when arriving at the school
office.
We are excited to let you know we now have a special Volunteer
check-in designation for those who are working as volunteers with
our schools when you sign in at a school. To activate it, we are
requesting that you fill out a
short form identifying the school(s) you are
volunteering with.
Once Spring Hill Elementary receives your completed form, we
will approve you as a Volunteer in the kiosk system. Starting
January 21st, you will be able to link your visit to your volunteer
role(s) for easy check-in/out. It will also send a reminder
to volunteers when it is time to review the
Mandated Reporter Training video again
(annually) or let you know about any other special requirements for
particular volunteer roles (e.g. background checks for mentors and
overnight chaperones).
We appreciate you taking a minute to click on the form and
update your information. And most importantly, thank you
again for helping our schools!
Sincerely,
Spring Hill Elementary School
Required Background Check for Volunteers
-
Georgia Law O.C.G.A. 35-3-34.2 states that volunteers who may have unsupervised access to children will submit to a fingerprint screening which includes a query through the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) of their criminal history.
All volunteers who work with students in an unsupervised capacity, including all chaperones for overnight field trips, must make an appointment with the Fayette County Public Schools' Human Resources department. The Human Resources department will make every effort to conduct background checks in a reasonable fashion; however, results may take up to two weeks. The fee for each background check is $42.50 (cash or money order). This fee is submitted to the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC). Only upon clearance from the Human Resources department may the volunteer commence their volunteer duties.
Volunteers must undergo a background check every 5 years and a criminal history check each year.
