Saturday Academies and Parent Workshops-
Occur throughout the year, Saturday mornings between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 pm.
Saturday Academies consist of small group learning in either math or ELA. Each academy will have a particular grade level that is targeted. Some academies will be by invitation only, most will be announced via our newsletters and/or e-blast to our entire student population. These workshops are created by Title One to sharpen our students' skill levels in these particular subjects.
Parent workshops usually coincide on Saturdays during our Academies. They have 3 main functions:
1. Parents have an opportunity to learn new math techniques that their student is currently learning in class. They are given strategies to aide their student with math, keep them encouraged, and on track.
2. Parents have an opportunity to learn what areas their children are working on in ELA. They are given skills to aide them in helping their children with homework and keeping them encouraged.
3. Educators share specific information on Milestone content so that parents can help in preparing their student for these exams.
Childcare and Tutoring-
During our Parent Workshops we routinely offer childcare for any siblings that can not attend a Saturday Academy. Title One will have high school and middle school Beta Club members aide with tutoring during the two hours. Students are tutored on math and ELA with fun games and manipulatives in a small group setting.
*We do not have the capacity to tutor disruptive or misbehaving children during these sessions, please plan accordingly.
