Three Fayette County high school yearbooks have received high ratings from the Georgia and National Scholastic Press Associations. 
Both the Georgia and National Scholastic Press Associations offer members an opportunity to have their yearbooks critiqued. Entries are judged by teams of professionals based on the following criteria: coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership, design, and photography and graphics. Entrants receive a written critique and honor rating.
This was Fayette County High School’s first year submitting their yearbook to the Georgia Scholastic Press Association for a rating review. Their yearbook, “Golden Memories,” received an Achievement rating.
Starr’s Mill High School’s “The Pride” received an Excellent rating at the state level and a First Class rating at the national level. Likewise, McIntosh High School’s “Legend” yearbook also received a First Class rating at the national level.
The First Class rating for the McIntosh High yearbook is an extra special achievement for the staff being that all of them were new last year, and had to learn about the makings of a yearbook from scratch. All 26 members of the 2019 “Legend” yearbook staff had to learn what a yearbook is, and how to create a yearbook while simultaneously putting one together. This involved learning how to take photos, plan layouts, do graphic design, and write stories in a journalistic style.
“We published a book with no experience. I’m super proud of not only being able to call myself a member of the staff, but what we pulled off in nine months,” says design editor Rachel Edge.
