 August Parent Letter

Greetings Inman Parents!

How exciting!  We are immersed in our technology integration plan for Connected Classrooms and a 1:1 computing environment at Inman Elementary School.

Each student in grades 2 - 5 will be issued a school-owned Chromebook for use in the classroom and at home again this school year.  Chromebooks are laptop computers that have a Google-based interface that runs Google-based apps. Chromebooks also allows filtered access to the internet so that students can consistently access our school’s digital resources such as Blackboard, Infinite Campus, digital textbooks, or any other web-based program currently being used in class.  If you have a wireless internet network at home, your student’s Chromebook will be able to access the internet through your network, but their access will be filtered for internet safety.  If you do not have a wireless network, many shops, restaurants, and even the Fayette County library have free wifi hotspots that students can access with their Chromebook

All Fayette County Schools will be deploying student-loaned chromebooks and all are excited about the increase access to teaching and learning supported by technology. "Technology will never replace great teachers, but technology in the hands of a great teacher can be transformational." -- George Couros. We all agree that, an effective classroom teacher, supported by amazing parents will enhance our teaching and your student’s learning and achievement.

Although this will be an awesome educational resource for our students, we are emphasizing to our students the value of this resource and the responsibility we are sharing with them.  We will need their help with managing and taking care of the piece of equipment that we will be loaning to them.  With your assistance, I am confident that a 1:1 computing environment will help us help our students meet their individual educational goals. We look forward to the parent meeting on the 20th to address questions and share the full plan and expectations for all stakeholders.

Our second graders and our students that are new to Inman will need to return their signed permission forms and will be issued their chromebooks in the next few weeks.  A copy will be sent home with any new students by Tuesday, August 14th.  If you misplace it, you can print one and return pages 4 and 5. Thank you for signing the forms and returning them to your homeroom teacher by August 20th after reviewing them with your child.
