Fayette County High SkillsUSA chapter wows at regions
The Fayette County High SkillsUSA chapter celebrated a stellar performance at the Region 4 SkillsUSA Competition held at Southern Crescent Technical College on December 6.
Students competed across a variety of technical and leadership categories, showcasing their skills, dedication, and professionalism. The Region 4 competition brought together students from across the region to demonstrate their expertise in technical, workplace, and personal skills. Competitions included Crime Scene Investigation, Job Skills Demonstration, T-shirt Design, Pin Design, Advertising Design, Extemporaneous Speaking, CPR/First Aid and more.
FCHS’s chapter brought home multiple medals. Ava Downes won 1st place for Pin Design, Marian Fraley placed 2nd for CPR/First Aid, and Jayla Heatley placed 3rd for Job Interview. The trio of Melanie Lorenzo, Nena Wade, and Adama Sheriff placed 2nd for Crime Scene Investigation.
Additionally, four students participated in the Broadcast News contest and earned a spot as one of the top 16 teams in the state, qualifying them to compete at the state competition. The FCHS Broadcast News Team is Donovan Veasey, Joseph Braxton, Matthew Furtch, and Shelby Stieff.
The students who placed at the regional level will now advance to the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference where they will compete against the best in Georgia for the opportunity to represent the state at the national level later this year.
