Wildcats wade into invertebrate studies
The Wildcats got their boots wet, wading into their studies of invertebrates on the bottom of the pond.
Students in Tom Hill’s environmental science class at Whitewater High waded into a pond to look for micro and macro invertebrates that live on the bottom of the pond in the benthic zone. They saw methane bubbling up and got a lot of dragon fly larvae and many thumbnail-sized bluegill. Once back in the classroom, they identified other tiny organisms with a microscope.
Hill loved seeing his students dive into the unique activity.
“Needless to say, the kids really enjoyed being out there.”
