Fayette raises stellar graduation rates
As Georgia’s state-wide graduation rates rise, Fayette County Public Schools continues to improve its scores.
Fayette County, as a whole, posted a graduation rate of 94.47%, up from 92% a year ago.
Statewide, high-school seniors recorded another all-time-high graduation rate in 2024. The four-year graduation rate rose to 85.4% -- up from 84.4% in 2023, and an all-time high since the state began using the adjusted cohort calculation first required in 2011 by federal law. Georgia’s statewide graduation rate has increased by 18 percentage points since 2011.
All five county schools outpaced the state’s rate. Starr’s Mill led at 96.33%, followed by McIntosh at 96.24%, Whitewater at 95.48%, Sandy Creek at 92.31%, and Fayette County High at 91.15%.
All five schools also improved on their rate from 2023, with Sandy Creek improving by more than 5 percentage points. Whitewater improved by 3.78 points and Fayette County by 2.35.
“I offer my congratulations to Georgia’s class of 2024 on this historic achievement,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “These students faced great challenges throughout their school careers – they were in middle school when the pandemic hit in 2020. We have worked to provide the resources and supports needed to ensure they could still succeed and thrive, and we continue to see results showing that the efforts of Georgia’s educators, families, and all those who have taken the time to invest in students are paying off.”
