Sandy Creek shines at Morehouse math competition
Sandy Creek High students racked up a string of strong showings at Morehouse College’s 13th annual Math Competitions Bootcamp.
A total of 8 Patriots participated, with 7 placing. Simon Morano, a sophomore, was the competition’s overall winner.
Ameen Dayisi won 1st place for the 10th grade, and Jazziah Edwards won 1st place for the 12th grade. Marcus Yancey (10th grade) and Dalilah Johnson (11th grade) placed 2nd, and Graison Saba (9th grade), Simone Antoine (10th grade), and Mia Sofranac (11th grade placed 3rd.
They prepared for the competition with teachers Milena Taylor and Laura-Leigh Reynolds.
The purpose of the bootcamp is to increase participation in math competitions by members of underrepresented groups, to introduce participants to local, regional, state and national math competitions, and to provide an opportunity for students to participate in a mini-math competition.
