Judge Thompson talks govt with Minter Elem.
State Court Judge Jason Thompson shared his expertise with Sara Harp Minter Elementary with a talk about the three branches of government.
As a culminating activity for their government unit, the 3rd grade learned a lot more about how it works from Judge Thompson. He spoke to the students about the structure and function of government, focusing on the three branches and how they work together. He emphasized the importance of balance and equality among the branches, helping students better understand their distinct roles.
Thompson answered thoughtful questions about the role of a judge, giving students a chance to demonstrate what they had learned throughout the unit. He expanded on their answers by offering real-life insights from his own experiences in the judicial branch. He even shared interesting details like the underground tunnel connecting the jail to the courthouse.
Thompson’s children attended Minter, and he has been coming for several years to talk to the Mountain Lions. He also graduated from Fayette County High with 3rd grade teacher Eileen Corley.
“The students were especially intrigued by this behind-the-scenes glimpse into how the system operates,” said Corley. “We are so grateful to Judge Thompson for taking the time to enhance our learning and bring government studies to life in such a meaningful and memorable way.”
