Dudes, Doors, & Donuts builds bonds at Spring Hill

Schools thrive when they have a supportive community, and a dedicated group helps the Suns shine extra bright in the mornings. Dudes, Doors, and Donuts brings together a group of men who volunteer for morning car duty at Spring Hill Elementary.

On the third Thursday of each month, any dads, grandads, brothers, uncles, and mentors that would like to volunteer are invited to Dudes, Doors, and Donuts. They join staff in the carpool line where they open doors and greet students. After they finish, the school PTO provides coffee, juice, and donuts as a thank you.

School Parent Liaison Cara Colson loves seeing the volunteers stepping up and setting an example for the Suns.

“We hope that our students take away that we are a place that welcomes men to be a part of volunteering, too,” she said. “It is more common to see women volunteering, and we want them to know that men can also be a part.”

Colson has also been inspired to see the regular volunteers start to develop a community of their own.

“The conversation flows easily now with many of them being interested in the lives and wellbeing of each other.”
