Starr’s Mill FCCLA bring holiday cheer to seniors
Starr’s Mill High’s Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter helped make the holidays brighter at Somerby Peachtree City Senior Living by teaming up to make ornaments with the residents.
Each month, the FCCLA officers pick a different service project. For December, they knew they wanted a project focused on working with seniors, so the club’s VP of Projects Aylin Gonzalez contacted Somerby to figure out what types of activities they could work on together. Gonzalez coordinated the entire event.
The partnership offered the students the opportunity to see how simple it can be to brighten someone's day and that donating time spent with others is as important a service as donating money or supplies.
Along with Adriah Williams, Hope Via is one of the FCCLA sponsors.
“The residents loved it and the students enjoyed hearing the residents' stories,” said Via. “The residents were so excited with the ornaments they made they asked us to come back at Easter.”
